Pfizer, the original developer of Viagra, is the licensee of Sildenafil Citrate. They have been the sole legitimate supplier and manufacturer of this medication in the USA for a long time. Clearly its an awesome market and pill sales worldwide are astronomical.
In this day and age the world's pharmaceutical companies don't just sit back and watch. They develop parallel products to erode Pfizer's market and attempt to share the lucrative erectile dysfunction remedy market. Pfizer is obviously defending their patent to the death in order to keep the competition out.

- Eli Lilly / ICOS consortium who manufacture Cialis™ (tadalafil)
Cialis(TM) (tadalafil) is an oral PDE5 inhibitor for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). Cialis is now broadly available by prescription in pharmacies in the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and Australia. Launches in additional European countries will be announced in the coming weeks. Cialis will be available in New Zealand later this month.
Both these products have been approved by the European Commission to be marketed in the European Union in 2003. Clearly if they comply with the European quality standards they are technically sound. FDA approval is sure to follow and these products are likely to be available in the USA shortly.
