Studies have shown that most ED is caused by health problems. Researchers have determined that the causes of erectile dysfunction generally fall into five main categories. Erectile dysfunction most commonly occurs when the penis is deprived of oxygen-rich blood. The symptoms are often inter dependant and presentation is frequently a combination of several components requiring an overall diagnosis from a medical practitioner. The five categories are:-
- Vascular
- Hormonal
- Neurogenic
- Iatrogenic (Caused by medication)
- Psychogenic
High blood pressure, stress, fatigue, high cholesterol, and diabetes are common and very typical examples of conditions which result in ED. Stress induced by a myriad of social, financial and business pressures can be another significant contributing factor.
Typically ED is associated non exclusively with the following conditions:-
- Blockage of Blood Vessels (Ischemia).
- Diabetes.
- High Blood Pressure.
- Parkinson's Disease.
- Multiple sclerosis
- Prostate Cancer.
- Hypogonadism.
- Peyronie's Disease.
- Priapism.
- Alcoholism.
- Surgical or Injury Damage.
